Microfluidic. Tech, in collaboration with Lumicision Inc., is proud to announce that our latest research—
“Laser Micromachining & Welding Optimization for High-Performance Polycarbonate Microfluidic Devices” has been officially accepted for presentation at Microfluidics Standardization Meets Technological Gaps & Future Investment, organized by the Microfluidics Association.

This achievement marks an important milestone in our mission to advance precision-engineered microfluidic systems and contribute to global standardization efforts within the industry.


Advancing the Future of Polymer Microfluidics

Our research integrates insights from 33 peer-reviewed publications with extensive in-house experimentation using CO₂, Nd:YAG, and femtosecond laser platforms. The study focuses on:

  • Optimizing microchannel fabrication for polycarbonate (PC) devices

  • Improving bonding and welding performance for PC–PC and PC–acrylic structures

  • Reducing thermal distortion and HAZ effects through selective laser processing

  • Establishing reproducible guidelines for scalable polymer microfabrication

The findings demonstrate how laser-based workflows can deliver high-precision, high-strength, and production-ready microfluidic components—a critical requirement for diagnostics, organ-on-chip, and next-generation lab-on-chip applications.

🔹 Microchannel Fabrication Improvements

  • CO₂ lasers provide rapid prototyping with deeper channels.

  • Nd: YAG pulsed machining yields cleaner, smoother geometries.

  • Femtosecond (fs) lasers enable cold ablation with submicron precision.

🔹 Breakthroughs in Bonding & Welding

  • Thermal bonding achieved deformation-free PC–PC seals up to 3.32 MPa.

  • Laser welding parameters optimized for uniform, high-strength PC–acrylic sealing.

🔹 Contribution to Standardization

The research proposes foundational guidelines for the consistent reporting of laser parameters, surface quality metrics, and bond integrity testing, supporting broader efforts toward global microfluidic manufacturing standards.
